CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK
The student must complete a background check at the beginning of the final year (first day of summer practicum) in the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) professional program. The background check must be completed by an agency approved by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. If a background check identifies any discrepancy, the discrepancy will be reviewed by the Department of Pathology Professional and Academic Standards Committee. If the Committee determines that the discrepancy requires more information, the following steps will occur:
(1) The student must provide a written personal explanation describing the events that lead to the charge(s) identified by the discrepancy indicated on the background check. The personal statement must be submitted to the Committee within five business days of the Committee’s request to the student.
(2) One copy will be placed in the student’s file.
(3) The student will be offered a maximum of two clinical sites which will be determined by CLS personnel.
(4) The clinical site will be given both the background check information and the student’s written personal explanation.
(5) If two clinical sites refuse the student based on the criminal offense, the student will be dismissed from the University of North Dakota Clinical Laboratory Science program.
(6) If the student fails to submit a personal statement the CLS program reserves the right to dismiss the student from the University of North Dakota Clinical Laboratory Science program.
